Abstract

Specifies requirements for the construction, installation and testing of drinking water treatment units and equipment, or appliances, or both, designed for domestic type applications under Australian and New Zealand climatic conditions, but does not preclude their use for commercial or industrial applications. These appliances are designed to be used for the reduction of specific groups of contaminants from a drinking water supply (public or private), such contaminants being specified by the manufacturer or reseller of the appliances. The Standard establishes minimum requirements for point of use (POU), point of entry (POE) and stand-alone appliances.

Scope

This Standard specifies requirements for the construction, installation and testing of drinking-water treatment units and equipment, or appliances, or both, designed for domestic type applications under Australian and
New Zealand climatic conditions, but does not preclude the use for commercial or industrial applications. These appliances are designed to be used for the reduction of specific groups of contaminants from a drinking water supply (public or private), such contaminants being specified by the manufacturer or reseller of the appliances. The Standard establishes minimum requirements for point of use (POU), point of entry(POE) and stand-alone appliances.

NOTES:
1 All these processes may include mechanical filtration or the reduction or treatment of microbiological, chemical (organic) or chemical (inorganic) including taste, odour and colour contaminants. Appliances may be effective in controlling one or more of the contaminants in combination, but it is not a requirement that they control all contaminants as part of a total process.
2 All references to appliances or water treatment appliances are for domestic type applications.
3 Appliances should be installed and serviced according to the manufacturer's or the reseller's instructions.
