Abstract

Specifies requirements for strength, durability and stability of tables and storage furniture for school and educational use.

Scope

1.1 SCOPE This Standard specifies strength, durability and stability requirements for stacking and non-stacking tables and storage furniture for use in educational institutions. This Standard does not cover clerical tables, tables for use in manual arts departments or laboratory work benches.

Two performance levels are included for the largest sizemarks, normal and severe. Normal is for use in supervized environments and severe for furniture which may experience a high level of abuse.

NOTE: When sizemarks are referenced in this Standard, refer to Appendix S which is an informative guide to dimensions of tables for the purposes of testing. Appendix S may be deleted by amendment when Part 1 is published.
