Abstract

Specifies performance requirements and some constructional requirements for distress rockets, flares and signals, smoke signals and collision warning flares intended for use on board pleasure craft. Recommendations regarding the circumstances under which each type of flare or signal should be used are included in an appendix.

Scope

This Standard specifies requirements for construction, performance and packaging of pyrotechnic marine distress flares and signals intended for use in pleasure craft.
NOTE: Guidance on the use of flares and signals is given in Appendix A.
