This British Standard provides guidance for assessing the on-bottom stability of subsea cables on rocky seabeds.

NOTE 1 Where seabeds consist of a layer of mobile sediment over a rocky seabed, this British Standard might be applicable in a situation where the sediment is washed away in the design extreme condition. Where a cable route consists of multiple seabed types, this British Standard can be used in conjunction with other suitable standards.

This British Standard does not provide guidance for assessing on-bottom stability on softer seabeds, such as sand and clay, and therefore is not an alternative to standards that provide guidance on these seabed types.

NOTE 2 A designer can use the design methods or guidance included in this British Standard for cylindrical products other than subsea cables, if deemed applicable, including but not limited to, umbilicals, flexible or rigid pipelines for oil, gas or other fluid service transport or telecommunications cables. Similarly, the designer can use the guidance in this British Standard for other conditions or situations where the designer believes them to be relevant, noting that relevant and appropriate failure risks and consequences might negate the applicability of Clause 4.
