This specification describes language and coding standards for the PILOT programming language. PILOT, which stands for Programmed Inquiry, Learning, Or Teaching, is a language for the development of conversational interactive sequences often used for computer-based instruction.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to improve code portability and to minimize the development of dialects of this language. It is expected that this will improve the sharing of courseware among teaching institutions. This standard has the following goals:1) To clarify contradictions in existing implementations of the language; 2) To develop a consistent recommended core definition; 3) To provide information about styles of language extensions that can be recommended.
