Scope

The specifications set forth in this standard are intended to define a physical interface for the interconnection of computers and medical devices. The scope of this standard is the Physical layer interface for cable-connected medical devices in the IEEE 1073 family of standards.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to specify the physical and electrical characteristics of the connector and signals necessary to exchange digital information between cable-connected medical devices and host computer systems. The interface is intended to be highly robust in an environment where devices are frequently connected to and disconnected from the network.

Abstract

New IEEE Standard - Inactive-Withdrawn.Withdrawn Standard. Withdrawn Date: Jan 25, 2005. A physical interface for the interconnection of computers and medical devices in the 1073 family of standards is defined. This interface is intended to be highly robust in an environment where devices are frequently connected to and disconnected from the network. The physical and electrical characteristics of the connector and signals necessary to exchange digital information between cable-connected medical devices and host computer systems are specified.
