Full Description

Scope

This document provides recommended practices for the design, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of the following types of electrical heating systems: impedance heating systems, induction heating systems, and skin effect heating systems. These recommended practices are intended to apply for use of these heating systems in general industry.

Purpose

Design information, selection parameters, and data in this document are not intended to provide a complete design of these heating systems. They should be helpful guides when the user is performing the following tasks:1) Selecting the optimum heating system2) Establishing design criteria and constraints for the heated pipeline or vessel to assure system compatibility3) Preparing specifications for heating systems to obtain quotations on equivalent systems4) Developing information on installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of these heating systems

Abstract

Revision Standard - Superseded.Recommended practices are provided for the design, installation, testing, operation and maintenance of impedance, induction, and skin-effect heating systems. Thermal insulation and control and monitoring are addressed. General considerations for heating systems are discussed, covering selection criteria, design guidelines and considerations, power systems, receiving and storage, installation, testing, operations, and maintenance. These aspects are then discussed for each of the above types of systems, along with special considerations particular to each. These recommended practices are intended to apply to the use of these heating systems in general industry.
