This document defines a recommended practice for communication and interoperation of devicesconnected on an electric power substation Internet protocol (IP) network. It does not establish a newunderlying communications standard. Instead, the document prescribes a specific set of existingconventions and definitions.
Purpose
This recommended practice provides direction for implementers who wish to produce interoperablecommunications equipment for an electric power substation network. It also provides criteria for users, system integrators, and equipment manufacturers who need to establish requirements for the transfer ofoperational and non-operational data as well as configuration management.
Abstract
New IEEE Standard - Active.Recommended practices for communication and interoperation of devices connected on an electric power substation Internet protocol (IP) network are provided. For the power engineer new to IP networking, this document provides an introduction to the concepts that need to be mastered as well as specific recommendations to follow when deploying the technologies. For equipment manufacturers and system integrators, it provides direction and requirements to facilitate interoperable electric utility information networks.
